nbn® Fibre Service Information

nbn® Fibre covers all wired technologies in the nbn®’s Multi-Technology Mix, including Fibre to the Premise (FTTP) and Hybrid-Fibre Coaxial (HFC), as well as Fibre to the Node, Curb or Building (FTTN/B/C).

This includes:

Your service technology depends on your address.

nbn® Fibre Service Technology Types

Using fibre-optic cabling connected through the various technologies described below, Activ8me is able to
offer every
type of access technology across the nbn® broadband access network.

Activ8me offers nbn® fibre broadband internet services on the Supersonic tier or for an additional
charge
the
Hypersonic tier.

You can see our most recent typical evening speeds for the three tiers in the nbn® Fibre plans above.

Activ8me offers unlimited data allowance plans, as well 100GB or 250GB per month data options for a
reduced
price.

nbn® Fibre-to-the-Premise (FttP/FttH)

Using fast optical fibre, Fibre-to-the-Premise (also called Fibre-to-the-Home) as the name suggests, involves
fibre-optic cabling running all the way into your home.

FTTP connections require an nbn® access network device, known as a Network Termination Device (or NTD) to
be
installed inside your home. This device requires power to operate and can only be installed by an approved
nbn®
installer.

Luckily, if your address is eligible for nbn® FttP and not yet installed, Activ8me can arrange for
standard
installation free-of-charge. New Development Fees apply to select addresses – call us on 13 22 88 to check
if you’re
unsure.

Important: The nbn® Fibre-to-the-Premise equipment is the property of nbn® and
should not be
removed from the premises where it’s installed, even if you move.

nbn® Fibre-to-the-Building (FttB)

An nbn® Fibre to the Building (FTTB) connection is generally used by apartment blocks or similar types of
buildings to connect to the nbn® access network.

In FttB connections, a fibre-optic line runs to a fibre node in the building’s communications room.

From there, existing network technology in the building (either phone cables or ethernet cables) to connect
to each
apartment.

The fibre node is likely to take the form of a secure cabinet in your building’s communications room.

Each cabinet will allow the nbn® access network signal to travel over a fibre optic line, to the existing
network
technology present in the building.

Depending on your needs, a standard setup will include some or all of the equipment shown.

nbn® Fibre-to-the-Curb (FttC)

nbn® FttC connections involve fibre-optic cabling running close to your premises, all the way to a
Distribution
Point Unit (DPU), which is generally located inside a pit on the street.

From here, the existing copper network (phone line) is used to connect the fibre network from the DPU to the
premise.

The nbn® supplied, free-of-charge FttC Network Connection Device (or NCD) requires electricity to provide
the
connection to the nbn® broadband access network.

In some cases, you may be eligible to perform self-installation of the nbn® connection box. Other cases
require a
(free-of-charge) standard installation to be booked by an nbn® approved installer.

If not already installed, installation will all be arranged by Activ8me.

Once you place your order, we’ll contact you to let you know the details of what’s required for connection at
your
address.

nbn® Fibre-to-the-Node (FttN)

An nbn® Fibre to the Node (FttN) connection involves connecting internet through the existing copper
phone line
running into the property.

Fibre-optic cables run to a nearby fibre node, from where copper cables (phone lines) are used to make the
final part
of the connection to the premises.

The fibre nodes are normally located in green street cabinets.

Each street cabinet will allow the nbn® access network signal to travel over a fibre optic line from the
exchange, to the cabinet, and connect with the existing copper network to reach your premises.

FttN connections do not require an nbn® NTD or modem installed inside the premises. Instead however these
services do require a VDSL2 compatible modem/router.

Activ8me offers VDSL2+ modem/router, if you don’t already own one.

Activ8me has no restriction on the use of compatible 3rd party modem-routers with any of our services, of any
technology type, including FttN.

If your address is eligible for nbn® Fibre-to-the-Node setup and not yet installed, Activ8me can arrange
for
standard installation of the ‘copper-pair’ free-of-charge by an nbn® approved installer.

Simply place an order online and we’ll contact you to arrange any required installation to get activated.

If you’ve already had an nbn® FttN service at your address in the past, Activ8me can have a new FttN
service
connected in your name to the existing line normally within 48hrs.

Fibre-to-the-Node

nbn® Hybrid-Fibre Coaxial (HFC) Cable

An nbn® Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) connection is used in circumstances where the existing ‘pay TV’ or
cable
network can be used to make the final part of the nbn® access network connection.

In this circumstance an HFC line will be run from the nearest available fibre node to your premises, with
coaxial
cable (often installed for Pay TV services, like Foxtel) running the remainder of the way into your house.
HFC
connections require an nbn® connection box to be installed at the point where the line enters your home,
and an
nbn® connection box inside your home.

This device requires power to operate, and can be installed by an approved nbn® installer or service
provider. If
your address is eligible for nbn® HFC and not yet installed, Activ8me can arrange for standard
installation
free-of-charge. New Development Fees apply to some addresses – call us on 13 22 88 to check if you’re
unsure.

If you already have the necessary nbn® HFC equipment installed, Activ8me can have a service connected to
the
existing equipment normally within 48hrs.
